The Pain Doesn’t Exist

A frightened child’s search for comfort
becomes apparent as she hugs her teddy bear.
The echoes of violence still linger
yet presence of angry retorts no longer there.

The age of seven yet fully aware
of the word ‘despair’ and ‘impaired’.
No sibling to run to,
No hopes to turn to.

She simply sits and waits.
Pretending the pain doesn’t exist.
